Do you rent emergency showers outside Alberta?
Yes. Mahikan Energy dispatches self-contained emergency shower trailers and stand-alone units across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and other Canadian provinces for plant turnarounds, spill response and remote projects.
Are Mahikan emergency showers ANSI compliant?
Every Mahikan emergency shower is engineered to meet ANSI/ISEA Z358.1-2014 requirements for emergency drench and eyewash equipment.
What temperature range can your units operate in?
Every unit is fully insulated, which matters year-round. In winter, the insulation and high/low temperature control system keep the flushing fluid tepid and protect the plumbing — standard units are built for Canadian winters and arctic-specification units run continuously down to -50°C. In summer, that same insulation keeps the interior cool by shielding it from high outside temperatures, so the water stays within the safe ANSI range instead of overheating.
Do you sell emergency showers or only rent them?
Both. Mahikan manufactures emergency showers for purchase and also offers short-term and long-term rental units, plus refurbishment of existing shower systems to bring them up to current ANSI standards.

Technology that keeps your site protected — and saves you money
When emergency equipment needs configuration or goes down, your project can't wait. Mahikan units are built with technology that keeps them ready and cuts your costs.
We can adjust settings, troubleshoot and reboot the unit remotely — saving you time and money by reducing technician travel and downtime. When something needs attention, your project keeps moving.
Know your emergency shower and eyewash is ready to protect your crew. Every unit is monitored around the clock, so you're never quietly out of service.
Did you know your emergency shower should be function-tested weekly? Normally that means running off flushing fluid and topping it back up. Not with Mahikan. Our proprietary recirculation loop circulates flushing fluid against the valves and through a filter system, and we can provide reports tracking the time, date, water temperature and circulation times of every automated weekly function test.
Employers are required to train workers on the use of emergency showers. Every Mahikan unit comes with a training course your workers can watch to help keep you compliant.
Units arrive on site full of flushing fluid and ready to go — connect power and you're operational.

Computerized remote monitoring, built into every unit
Mahikan emergency showers carry an onboard programmable logic controller (PLC) and human-machine interface (HMI) that watch every critical function in real time — and alert your team the moment something drifts out of range.
An onboard computer for every shower
The PLC continuously tracks water temperature, flow, tank level, pump status, heater status and enclosure conditions. When a reading goes outside its safe range, the system texts or emails a designated contact automatically — so a unit is never quietly out of service.
It also runs automated functions on its own: weekly maintenance circulation, heater engagement in cold weather, and a full self-function test with a logged record.
Real screens from the HMI
Operators configure thresholds, review alarms and confirm status directly from the on-unit interface — or remotely from a smartphone.
Live status at a glance
Real-time tank level, water and cabinet temperature, room temperature and fuel level, with a live alarm log for anything out of range.
What's running right now
A clear status view of every input and output — pump, water heater, valve, room heater, horn, lights, door and fuel — showing exactly what is in operation.
Site-specific thresholds
Sensor thresholds and setpoints are tuned to your site requirements and the applicable SDS before the unit ships.
Fault & activation alerts
Configurable alarms drive the on-unit horn and beacon and send SMS/email notifications to your contacts.
Certified controls, built for classified areas
The control system uses certified, explosion-proof components suitable for Hazloc Class I Division 2 (Zone 2) environments — so the same monitoring you'd expect in a plant control room travels with the unit to the wellsite.

Resources & emergency shower guides
Practical answers on ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 compliance, cold-weather performance and choosing between renting and buying emergency showers.
How often must an emergency shower be tested?
What ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 requires for weekly activation and annual inspection — and how Mahikan automates it.
What "cold-weather rated" should actually mean
Tepid water is the hard part. Why insulation and temperature control matter in both winter and summer.
Do I have to train workers to use an emergency shower?
Yes — employers must train exposed workers. What that covers, and how Mahikan units include a built-in training course.
Questions about your site?
Our team can help you spec the right unit.
How often must an emergency shower be tested?
ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 sets clear expectations for keeping emergency showers and eyewash stations ready. Here's what the standard requires — and how automated monitoring makes it painless.
Weekly activation
ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 calls for plumbed emergency showers and eyewash equipment to be activated weekly to verify they function and to clear the supply line of stagnant fluid. The check confirms flow is present and the unit operates on demand.
Annual inspection
In addition to the weekly activation, the standard calls for a full inspection at least once a year to confirm the unit still meets the flow, duration, pattern and temperature requirements.
Why the weekly test is a hassle with conventional units
On a normal self-contained unit, running the weekly test means using flushing fluid that then has to be topped up, and someone has to be on site to do it and record it. Miss a week and you have no proof the unit was ready.
How Mahikan automates it
Mahikan units run an automated weekly self-function test using a proprietary recirculation loop that circulates flushing fluid against the valves and through a filter — so you're not draining and refilling the tank. The onboard PLC logs the time, date, water temperature and circulation times, and we can provide reports as documented proof of compliance.
Want documented weekly testing?
Ask about Mahikan's automated function test and compliance reports.
What "cold-weather rated" should actually mean
Meeting the flow and duration numbers is the easy part. Keeping flushing fluid tepid in a Canadian or northern U.S. winter — and cool in summer — is what separates a real unit from a box with a tank in it.
The tepid water requirement
ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 requires flushing fluid to be delivered "tepid" — between 16°C and 38°C (60°F to 100°F). Too cold and a worker can't tolerate a 15-minute flush; too hot and it can worsen a chemical injury.
Why insulation matters both ways
A fully insulated enclosure isolates the interior from outside temperatures in both directions. In winter, insulation plus a heating system keep the fluid and plumbing from freezing. In summer, that same insulation keeps the interior cool and shields the water from high outside heat, so it stays in the safe range instead of overheating.
Arctic specification
Mahikan builds fully self-contained, heated units with arctic specifications rated for continuous operation down to -50°C. The temperature requirement is engineered into the unit — not left to site plumbing or the weather.
What to ask a supplier
Ask how the unit maintains tepid water at your lowest expected temperature, whether it's insulated for summer heat too, and whether water temperature is actively monitored and alarmed. Mahikan units monitor water temperature 24/7 and alert if it drifts out of range.
Need a unit that holds tepid water in any season?
Ask about arctic-spec builds and temperature monitoring.
Do I have to train workers to use an emergency shower?
Short answer: yes. Having a compliant emergency shower on site is only half the requirement — workers need to know how and when to use it. Here's what that means, and how Mahikan makes it easy.
Why training is required
Employers are responsible for making sure workers who may be exposed to hazardous chemicals can find and correctly use emergency showers and eyewash stations. In the seconds after a chemical splash there's no time to read instructions — the response has to be automatic. Occupational health and safety regulators expect workers to be trained on the equipment available to them, and ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 reinforces that emergency equipment is only effective when people know how to use it.
What the training should cover
Effective training makes sure every exposed worker knows where the nearest shower and eyewash are, how to activate them, and to flush for the full recommended duration — at least 15 minutes for most exposures. It should also cover removing contaminated clothing while flushing, holding the eyes open during an eyewash, and getting medical attention afterward. Workers should know that an emergency shower is first aid, not a substitute for treatment.
Keep it fresh
Training isn't a one-time event. New workers need it before they start, and refreshers keep the response sharp. Locations and equipment can change during turnarounds and projects, so a quick orientation whenever a unit is placed helps everyone respond correctly.
How Mahikan helps you stay compliant
Every Mahikan unit comes with a training course your workers can watch, so you can demonstrate that your crew has been trained on the equipment on site. It's a simple way to close the gap between having a compliant shower and having a compliant program — and to keep your due-diligence records in order.
Want training built into your rental?

ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 emergency shower requirements, explained
A plain-language guide to the standard that governs emergency shower and eyewash equipment in North America — and what it means for your site.
What ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 covers
ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 is the North American standard for emergency eyewash and shower equipment. It sets minimum performance requirements for flow rate, duration, water temperature, placement and testing, so that a worker exposed to hazardous substances can decontaminate immediately and effectively.
| Requirement | What the standard says | How Mahikan units meet it |
|---|---|---|
| Flow rate | Minimum 20 US GPM for showers | 400-gallon capacity supports full-duration, full-flow operation |
| Duration | Minimum 15 minutes of continuous flushing | Extended-duration design built specifically for longer flush requirements |
| Temperature | Tepid fluid: 16–38°C (60–100°F) | Heated, temperature-controlled supply, monitored continuously by onboard PLC |
| Accessibility | Reachable within 10 seconds, unobstructed | Self-contained and mobile, so the unit is positioned at the hazard, not the nearest plumbing |
| Activation | Operational in 1 second or less, hands-free once activated | Pump starts automatically when the entrance door is opened |
| Testing | Weekly activation, annual inspection | Automatic weekly maintenance cycles with 24/7 remote monitoring and alerts |
Tepid water is the hard part in northern climates
Meeting the flow and duration numbers is straightforward; keeping flushing fluid between 16°C and 38°C on a northern Alberta or northern U.S. site in January is not. That's why Mahikan builds fully self-contained, heated units with arctic specifications rated to −50°C — the temperature requirement is engineered in, not left to site plumbing.
ANSI Z358.1 questions we hear most
How long must an ANSI Z358.1 emergency shower run?
ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 requires emergency showers to deliver flushing fluid for a minimum of 15 minutes at a minimum flow of 20 US gallons (75.7 litres) per minute.
What water temperature does ANSI Z358.1 require?
The standard requires tepid flushing fluid, defined as between 16°C and 38°C (60°F to 100°F), which is why heated, temperature-controlled units matter on Canadian sites.
How close must an emergency shower be to a hazard?
ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 requires emergency equipment to be reachable within 10 seconds of the hazard, on the same level, with an unobstructed path.
How often should emergency showers be tested?
Plumbed units should be activated weekly to verify operation, with a full annual inspection against the standard. Mahikan units automate weekly maintenance cycles and monitor performance continuously.
Need a compliant unit on site?
Our team can confirm the right configuration for your hazard and climate.
